Student Success
Student Success
Supporting students to help them achieve their education goals is the core of our mission at Brock Academy. We are dedicated to ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed in their OSSD diploma, and throughout their university education as well. We provide top-quality, challenging education, while also giving students the support they need to conquer those challenges.
Guidance Counsellors and Personal Support
At Brock Academy, school guidance counsellors will assess your child before they begin any of our programs by administering the Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) process. This assessment looks at the student’s academic abilities as well as their unique interests and goals, allowing us to best guide your child through their education and help them reach their career aspirations.
Our expert team of guidance counsellors are well-versed in the full range of post-secondary options, ensuring that counselors can explore possibilities and guide each individual student on the path that is right for them. We are well-connected with various post-secondary institutions, which allows our students to interact first-hand with representatives and fully explore their options.
From the results of the PLAR we create a completely personalized student study plan that follows the Canadian curriculum. Our guidance counsellors work with teachers to determine how they can best use this plan to fully support each student.
Our team of administrators are equipped with the knowledge and skills to facilitate student success, monitor student’s academic progress and personal development, and to communicate that information to parents and guardians.

English as a Second Language Program
Many of our students need language support to ensure their success. That’s why we offer a strong English as a Second Language Program. Our Canadian teachers assess your child’s language ability and determine if they would benefit from completing the ESL program.
The program consists of five high school level courses, with regular assessments after each level. Once this is complete, your child can join the regular high school academic program. Not all children will need to complete the ESL program.
All universities will require English Language Proficiency testing. A number of tests are accepted in Canada and abroad including IELTS, TOEFL and CELPIP. We will help your child prepare for the specific tests their prospective universities require.
Other Support Options
There are other ways that we help ensure student success:
- On-going assessment: The OSSD curriculum involves regular assessment, instead of one test at the end of the course. This allows us to identify areas students are weaker in and help them improve before they achieve their final grade.
- Global and Canadian teachers: Our teachers work from Canada and globally, online and in-person to offer students personalized support that fits their needs.
